new stores in australia?

As I was sleeping last night, the radio said something about Zara as I drifted to sleep…

I did some investigating and found out they were talking about famous overseas brands expressing interest in coming to Australia. These include:

  • ZARA: speculated to be in negotiations with Westfield to open inside the redeveloped Westfield Sydney
  • GAP
  • Abercrombie & Fitch
  • H&M

The brands I haven’t heard of:

  • Miu Miu: opening next month in Chadstone, Melbourne
  • Topshop: UK brand opening on Oxford Street, Sydney

Thanks to an improving economy and purported improving tastes, these stores are set to hit Australian stores within the next few years. Rumours about which international brand names would be coming to Australia have been around for a long time, and each one proves to be a lemon. We’ll see how these ones go.

Should ZARA open in the new Westfield Sydney (Centrepoint, Imperial Arcade and Sky Garden), the complex is expected to open progressively from late 2010. The redevelopment should be fully completed by  2012.
